Learned how to shoot a hand gun today...I feel like a responsible Republican!

Today my boyfriend took me to the indoor shooting range and let me fire his .40 caliber Glock hand gun. Today I became a gun-totting redneck Republican...finally!

Of course, I am not saying that you need to have fired a gun to be a Republican but man was that cool...fun...powerful! There is a certain amount of security that come along with something like that. I like to know that, even with my limited 100 rounds of experience, I can now use a gun if I needed too. Probably not quite that effectively but still...I could do it to defend myself. That is a right we all have!

There is no doubt that there are those out there that think what I did today was awful but I have one thing to say to them...its my right and I'm looking forward to being able to do something like that again.

I don't know much about gun control cases or laws so if anyone has any info to share, please feel free. In the next few days I'm going to familiarize myself a little bit with it.

Chick Chat: .33% of Americans are in the Military and they do good!

For a while I was just so fed up with the things going on in Washington that I could no longer even follow what was happening. Sorry that I've been gone for a few months now. I just needed a break from being depressed about the state of our union.

I was thinking about what to write about today, while catching up on watching and posting Steve Crowder's videos from You Tube (which we all know that I love) when I came across this particular one called MARINES INVADE HAITI!! Kind of makes me chuckle because for a couple months now I've been dating a man who is in the U.S. Reserves and the video really touched home.

Naturally I've learned a lot more about the military since I started things with my beau. I had never before realized how incredibly multifaceted they are. I always knew in the back of my mind that we did good along with the defense, but as Steve Crowder says, "the only thing the US Military does a bad job of doing is letting everyone know all the good that they are doing." I'm lucky enough to have learned so much more in the last couple of months, specifically since my beau's job in the Army is mostly about doing good.

I didn't know that there were specific area of the military that focus their energies solely on entering areas and creating good will among the people. Departments that focusing on helping others and improving the lives of those touched by disaster or corruption; men and women that enter dangerous areas to earn the trust of villages and elders by enhancing their way of life. Even if in return they are improving the relationship between America and the world, it is a small price to ask for the amount of good that people around the world are receiving from US Military.

I am at least grateful that here in the US people seem to have a better understanding of the good that our men and women do overseas. For some reason the beau was surprised when he recently had to make a trip into New York City in his ACU (I didn't know what those were 2 months ago so for all of us lacking army knowledge those are the camo-patterned uniforms we've all seen) people were so appreciative. Walking around he was asked to take photos with people, given free merchandise and tours, paid special attention too and mostly just thanked for his service to our country.

I thank God everyday that the vast majority of this country appreciates the sacrifice that such a small portion of American are willing to do. Just so we all have a better understanding here: only 1/3 of 1% of our country serves in the military. Such a small percentage defending so many!

When I heard that number, my heart went out even more to all those in the military. Despite where your opinion lies on the wars, we have a responsibility to support the men and women risking their lives for us! I know that I am not brave enough to take the risks and accept the sacrifices that come along with being a part of the military family. Are you?

I’m going to include the Crowder video below of course and if you have a chance to watch it please do. He makes some good points but he also has some touching footage of our military…footage that I am not used to seeing. We don’t get to see those kind of images on CNN, CNBC, FOX etc. Videos of American soldiers doing the good are not as news worthy as the footage of the mistakes.

So I will end this little rant by saying a big THANK YOU to all those men and women that are a lot braver than 99.66% of this country. You risk your lives: mind, soul and body to protect, defend and improve life for the rest of us. As meager as a simple thanks can be for all that you do, it is the least we can give you in return. A YouTube Video Makes Me Question College Classes

In college I took my share of Socialist...I mean Sociology Classes. I didn't realize really until now though how anti-capitalistic some of those classes were.

Kind of sad that even with as educated as I've become I was still under the impression that my education was relatively socialism free. I remember thinking it was a treat when my Sociology Class screened Roger and Me, a Michael Moore film. And I remember thinking, I'm going to take this with a grain of salt, since I already knew that Michael Moore films weren't really the most unbiased documentaries. Even when my super-Obama-loving documentary film class Professor refused to show Michael Moore films, I didn't realize just how corrupt his movies are. It took a comedian's YouTube video for me to realize something interesting about Moore's films and in the bigger picture...my college experience.



If you had a chance to watch the video above you heard the "interviewer" ask "Michael Moore" why he choose not to include the interview with "Roger" in Roger and Me. If you haven't been "fortunate" enough to see Roger and Me let me fill you in. Basically, Michael Moore spends the entire documentary trying to get an interview with then GM CEO, Roger Smith, who had closed several plants in Flint, Michigan, which "devastated" the city economically. Well, since the whole premise was based on the the fact that Moore couldn't get an interview with the big bad corporation, you would think this movie would be totally discredited and ignored when you find out that he actually did get the interview.

But I NEVER heard that from any of my liberal college professors in all of the 3 classes where that film was shown. They failed to mention, discuss or analyze the film with that information. This film has been shown to hundreds of students year after year in every Intro to Sociology class at my college at least. How many of them have heard the truth? I emailed an old friend of mine from college who was a sociology major to see if she ever heard about this. I've yet to hear back from her. (But she bathed in the kool-aid right after we graduated so I don't know if its that shes ignoring me, the message or just busy.)

Moving on...There was one class in specific that I remember watching this film in, American Contemporary Society. I hated that class with all the fiber of my being. There was always something very disturbing and annoying about class and now I realize that we spent an entire semester focusing on anti-capitalist topics.

We spent an extra long time on one topic in particular; the "Great American Streetcar Disaster". We spent weeks talking about the big bad car companies that bought out all the streetcar companies and destroyed them by creating a monopoly that has ruined our worlds environment and devastated the infrastructure for future America.

Of course I wiki-ed this topic to see if I could remember more about it and this is the article that appeared: Great American Streetcar Scandal

It is just hysterical to me that I was almost fooled again! Neutrality, such a simple word and yet it is so often ignored. This was for me a lesson to be a little more careful about what I'm reading, hearing and taking in. During college I was obviously being informed and attempted to be molded by the professor that I had, but now, in the real world there are just as many liberal influences that we need to wary of.

I've spent a lot of time talking about the influences of left-leaning ideals in schools across the country, but I'm only just now realizing that simply because we've left the halls of our alma maters doesn't mean that we are free from misinformation and left-leaning biases. We must always be vigilant about the neutrality of even the most seemingly benign sources.

First off, the Republican's have not denied the fact that there are serious problems with our health care system. To libel them and say that we want people to die is outrageous, unrepresentative and totally untrue! We are not arguing that Harvard study, we are arguing about the way to change that number.

Grayson has taken this debate to a whole new level that is ridiculous and childish. The solutions that the Republican are providing are different from the solutions that the Democrats are providing. We need to stop attacking each other for believing differently and start focusing on fixing the problem without this childish name calling. My question is where is the teacher who will send all these petulant children to detention for disrupting the classroom?

And I need to mention how disgusted I am with Grayson's use of the word "holocaust"! The connotations that word carries are so extreme that it is inconceivable to compare the 30-40 thousand uninsured American to the 11 million that were massacred in Nazi Germany. I also find it HYSTERICAL that suddenly the Democrats are making Nazi references. I doubt that anyone will attack them like they have when Republicans dare mention anything from Nazi Germany.

Congressman Alan Grayson (D-FL) warned Americans about the GOP plan for health care. During an after-hours House floor speech Tuesday night Grayson said the GOP health care plans consists of: Part one, don’t get sick. Part two, if you do get sick, die quickly.

“That’s right,” Grayson said, “the Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick….This is what the Republicans want you to do.”

House Republicans quickly jumped on the remarks calling on Grayson to apologize. He did not.

"Alan Grayson reached a new low tonight," said Andy Sere, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. "We'd ask him to apologize -- and he should, immediately -- but we've watched him long enough to know that he's not capable of shame."

Chick Chat: Chicago Rejected. Are Obama's magical powers & savior streangth super magnetism wear off internationally?

Since most of our society focuses on social events as major and monumental news so will I. The 2016 Olympics has gone to Rio!!! How exciting that for the first time a South American country is being visited by the Olympic flame. I am truly excited for them and was rooting the whole time for thier victory.

NOW. Chicago, tisk tisk, 4th out of 4! What does that really say about the shenanigans of Chicago politics and the American's display. Despite the revered Double O's, Obamas and Oprah, visit to Copenhagen, Chicago was eliminated the very FIRST ROUND!!! That's pitiful, but I am almost happy that this happened. Did I hear a why in between the outcries of racist and terrorist?

Well, here is why. The world has for a long time hated the arrogance of the United States and Obama has made sure to apologize for that (and Bush) every time he has had the opportunity. Obama claimed to be the change that the world wanted. He thought he was going to be this big unifier that was going to save the economy, health care, make peace with Iran, fix immigration, fix whatever it is was wrong with the country and ultimately the world. Funny, how in the few short months of his presidency the world has started to see what a large percentage of Americans have been fighting against for months. A lying piece of a...rrogance that has swindled his way into a position of power!

They, aka the world, are loosing respect for him!! The Middle East is walking all over him with the nuclear plants, France is having to reprimand his actions and now he is not even getting any special treatment with the IOC. His presence wasn't even a drop in the Olympic size swimming pool.

Obama's political capital is dwindling faster than this countries liberties. So while Obama waltzed into Copenhagen expecting it to close the deal, his brief stay, his arrogant confidence was probably a factor in the U.S' lost bid. Even "former IOC member Kai Holm said that the brevity of his appearance may have counted against him. The short stopover was 'too business-like,' Holm said. 'It can be that some IOC members see it as a lack of respect.'" And while Obama once called for 'A New World Order' while in Europe, I hope, for this country and the worlds, that this is a small signal of the response he would get with a statement like that now.

Chick Chat: Shunned Religion, America's Youth and the Danger of Our Entitlement

When get a fwd message I usually take a glance at it, have a good laugh if its particularly funny. Read it if its particularly interesting or discard it if its none of the above. I find that it rare to come across a forward that really makes me ponder something. When I received the message below I couldn't stop thinking about it. It is simple, and cheesy but it really made me start to wonder about the repercussions of excluding religion from so much of our society.

The forward goes on to cite Madeline Murray O'Hare, Dr. Benjamin Spock, the entertainment industry and parental compliance as definte contributers to this lack of religion in schools and moral inadequacies of our youth.

I was fortunate enough to go to Christian school my whole life and had parents that were strict in the sense that I was raised not watching excessively violent, sexually promiscuous movies or similar music. But how much of my generation was raised in such an environment? The answer is not much...and I agree with the assumption that some of that violent, sexually promiscuous drug culture has resulted in atrocious and horrific deaths of Americans.

I am one of the thousands of people in this country that has been directly affected by one of those deaths. When I was a mere freshmen in college I ran in the same circles as a young man who we lost at the Virginia Tech tragedy.

I refuse to believe that this was a single incident (proof we also see in the list above that) by one deranged young man. Would all these young people who commit these crimes have acted in such manners if they had had different influences in life? This we'll never know! But what we do know it that violence in schools has become significantly more prevalent in the past couple decades. After God was banned from our conversations and after children were being raised in these "no-discipline-kum-bay-yah-everything-is-yours" households.

I've mentioned before my generation's sense of entitlement and I think this fits right into the picture. We've always been entitled to watch what we want, listen to what we want, play with what we want. own what we want, and in general get anything and everything we want. Everything from the new version of Halo to "getting rid" of those that bully us in high school.

My generation has a lot to learn...about compassion, about consequences, about love and about hate, about violence, sex, and drugs, and about right and wrong.

Chick Chat: The View Makes Me Question the African-American Community

With all this talk of racism I feel like I"m going to be attacked by at least some one for the things I am about to discuss/say. Yet, I have to admit that I don't care, they are my thoughts on a matter that should be open to discussion. By keeping race, racism in this don't ask, don't tell, lock down, taboo container we are only hurting and perpetuatin the issue.

On YouTube there is a video of Sherri Shepherd on The View discussing the election of Barack Obama. She get's very emotional and starts to talk about her son. Here is the basic idea of what she said...."I sat by my sons bed, and we've always been, people of color, we've always had these limitation on us....to look at my son and say, no limitation on you, its an extraordinary day for me to be able to tell my son..."

What Sherri said, I feel like I've heard the same thing from many others in the African-American community. I totally respect and can appreciate the historic nature of this election but I am just sincerely confused about this whole situation. I had a few questions come to mind...

Why is it that so much of this "we can do anything now" attitude is just now coming to light in the Africa American community?
Why is this election the "turning point" for black advancement?
Why hasn't the black community been able to rally this "success IS possible regardless of color" attitude before?

I just don't understand why the African American community wasn't able to do these thing before. To me it seems like they have held onto these prejudices as almost a safety blanket and perpetuated that to each generation, instead of trying to eradicate this "woe is me" attitude.

I'm Hispanic, there had obviously never been a Hispanic president, but I still feel that I can accomplish anything. When I was going to college in Pennsylvania, at a predominantly Anglo school, I didn't find myself ever thinking, "Oh, I don't think I'll do this because I'm different from them." I never look at things and say, oh I'm a different color or ethnicity and people will look/judge/accept me differently so I'm not going to do it.

I'm sincerely curious and confused about this continuous self perpetuated glass ceiling. I do understand that there is a degree of difficulty for the black community that doesn't exist for others. But in the past 40, almost 50 years of equality, why hasn't one generation stood up and taken that basic idea of "We are not going to be defined by the color of our skin", and added to that, "we are not going to rely on that defiance as an explanation, good or bad, for our status. My failure or success' aren't based on the color of my skin but on me, my work ethic and my persistence."

Is this the generation that will come to that realization?
Did it really take a half white black man getting all the way to the White House to get an entire community to realize that the American Dream is possible?
How many black communities are plagued with teenage pregnancy, single parent households, abuse, poverty, drug and alcohol problems, both selling and using?

There was a point in history where the black man was completley judged on the color of his skin. But is that really the case anymore? When will the African American community see that the girl getting pregnant, the woman raising her child by herself, the man emotionally or physically hurting a woman, the welfare checks instead of paycheck, the buying and selling of illegal substances, is not the "white man" fault anymore...when will they accept responsibility for their community instead of using these things as an crutch??

I am in no way trying to antagonize any group or be labeled a racist in any measure. I'm just trying to understand the logic, reasoning behind this generationally perpetuated glass ceiling.

I FINALLY Agree with Obama!!

Politico is reporting that a ABC employee, Terry Morgan, tweeted at 6:39 pm, "President Obama just called Kanye West a "jackass" for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential."

He apparently said it off the record in passing and I have to admit, its the first thing that he has said that I agree with!! Kanye was a jackass and yet again reminded me why I refuse to support his music. People need to stand up now and boycott him like they did with the Dixie Chicks.

I've never been surrounded by so many people and felt so safe! I've never been around so many American's and felt so proud! I've never been so encouraged! Today was such an amazing experience! It was a monumental moment in our fight against government waste, fraud, corruption, control...etc

I have to say that this March on Washington was not even remotely about a group of "sore losers" (as the Huffington Post claimed) expressing their racist and bi-partisan views. While there I heard and saw discontent about overall spending, fundamental changes, control and the corrupt agendas of the Obama's administration. I didn't hear or see, anything or anyone saying or carrying racial slurs. I even saw a poster with the words "Faces of Fascism" sprawled across it and pictures that included Obama's face alongside Bush's. This wasn't about Obama being elected, it wasn't some racist attempt to harm the president...it was all about claiming our rights as American's to disagree with the govenment.

From the moment we left our hotel room we started seeing the protesters. On the metro, men gave up their seat to women/children/elderly while people sang God Bless America. The metro stops were packed and people continues to cheer, chant and sing as they exited the buildings. When I was on Pennsylvania Avenue there was a SEA of people! I have no words to descirbe the amount of people there...you'll have to wait for the pictures.

The people were so nice, so polite, so friendly that I felt like everyone was someone I had already met! We marched all the way down Pennsylvania Avenue and gathered on the lawns of the Capitol building. My estimate would be somewhere around 750,000 to 1,200,000 people....don't pay attention to the media, look at the pictures and videos and make your own judgement about how many were there!

We walked around for a while, and then pulled out our blanket and sat on the lawn listening to the speakers. Which I must admit, I didn't see once! You could at least hear the speakers from where I was, but not see them. There were some people that couldn't hear very much but that was a blessing since it meant that the protest was a lot bigger than even the organizers imagined!

My mother and I met countless people from Maryland, South/North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, California, Washington State, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and I know there were a lot more states represented!

I'm trying to get the pictures up as sooon as I can, I have a couple hundred so its taking me a little longer to get an album of some sort going. In the meantime, I'll put up some YouTube vids and article links as they come up.

Apparently, we are talking to North Korea and Iran now according to the White House.

Obama agreed to meet with Kim outside of the context previously demanded. Previously they were going to meet in the larger group with Russia etc. But now they are of course going back and changing thier mind about that! They are willing to meet with them outside of the structured forum.

Iran insist its not willing to negotiate over nukes but we are still going to move ahead and talk with this dangerous nation. Absolutely ridiculous that we are going to engage in talks with a country that obviously has no respect for us, well for our President. Obama has done a terrible job asserting himself on foreign policies. No suprise there since he has about, oh i dont know, 2 seconds of experience.

Why don't we just hold hands with all the countries who have threatened us and since Kum bah yah while we sip our iced teas.

Another Wonderful Tribute Video

Today marks the anniversary of the greatest tragedy in American history. Everyone remembers where they were 8 years ago today.

I know I'll never forget! I was home from school that day, sick with a cold. My mother had left on a business trip that morning and I woke up to a call from my dad, telling me to turn the TV on and asking me where my mother was going. I couldn't remember.

For some strange reason my mother never got off the ground that morning and I thank the Lord every day for some things that happened that day. Already boarded on her Ft. Lauderdale flight to Dallas my mother says she will never forget the reaction of some passengers when they announced that there was a problem with the plane and they couldn't take off. There was a man, one row back who took out a cell phone and started yelling to whoever was on the other end. My mother said everyone turned to look at him because it was so out of the ordinary to hear someone yelling so loudly and violently...in Arabic. Did I mention she had been upgraded to first class?

It was only weeks later after we had learned all the facts, that hijackers were Saudi Arabian, that the hijackers trained in Florida, that hijackers were seated in first class, that there had been more targets, that my mother called in and reported the incident. Who knows if it was a business man who was going to miss a meeting, a father missing a recital or...something else. We will never know but every 9-11 I still remember the fear I felt when I couldn't recall where my mother was going. I'll still remember the anticipation I felt when I couldn't reach her quickly and I will ALWAYS remember her story and the chills it gave me.

I realize that there are 9-11 stories of loss, hope and thanks and that my story is not extraordinary. It is just mine. My little piece of the bigger picture. The bigger loss that was felt, the bigger compassion that commenced, the grander unity that overwhelmed America as we stood together to honor and remember our fallen in those days.

We need to recall those emotions that flooded the nation, not pretend to honor this day with activites unrelated to the event. This day should always be focused on those people that lost their lives.
