I refuse to read Barack Obama's books! When I go to store I can't even stand to look at them sitting on the shelves. I am constantly turning the covers around or putting another book in front of them because if I can prevent even one person from purchasing them it makes me happy.

But I did have a friend who sent me some quotes that he pulled from Audacity of Hope and Dreams of My Father (which he rented from the library!) And while I know we can't change whose in the White House we should constantly remember the core beliefs of the man that we put there.

Health Care Bill Could Face String of Legal Challenges

Organizations and lawmakers opposed to the health care reform package are getting their legal briefs in a bunch, threatening to challenge the constitutionality of the sweeping overhaul should it make its way to President Obama's desk.

Republicans have agreed to allow the Democratic-led Senate to move up the time for a final vote to 8 a.m. Thursday so that lawmakers and their staff can go home for Christmas. But GOP supporters aren't backing down on their threats to put a stop to the legislation using whatever legal means possible.

Two key issues seem to be attracting the bulk of the legal threats: a mandate for individuals to purchase health insurance and the special treatment that states like Nebraska are getting in the bill.

On the first issue, Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., on Tuesday renewed the call to examine the constitutionality of whether the federal government can require Americans to purchase a product.

"I don't believe Congress has the legal or moral authority to force this mandate on its citizens," Ensign said in a statement, raising what's known as a "constitutional point of order." Such procedural challenges are rare and typically lead to a vote.

The non-profit Fund for Personal Liberty, as well as a Virginia-based group called the 10th Amendment Foundation, already have threatened to file suit in federal court over this issue if the health care bill passes.

The Constitution allows Congress to tax, borrow, spend, declare war, raise an army and regulate commerce, among other things. Proponents of the insurance mandate point to the Commerce Clause in arguing that Congress is within its rights to require health insurance and dismiss such potential legal challenges.

But foes say the across-the-board requirement is too broad.

"I personally do not believe the Congress has the authority to enact an individual mandate requiring a person to purchase a product from a private seller," said Kent Masterson Brown, lead counsel with The Fund for Personal Liberty. "I don't think the power is there. This is not regulating anything."

He said his group would be joined by the Washington Legal Foundation in filing suit against the health care bill.

"This thing may be stillborn, even if it passes," he said.

Even though Obama argues that the mandate is similar to laws requiring drivers to obtain auto insurance, opponents cite several key differences. First, the auto insurance mandate is avoidable, since anyone who doesn't want to pay doesn't have to drive. Second, auto insurance is mandated in large part so that drivers carry liability insurance to cover damages to other people and cars -- not themselves. Third, auto insurance regulation occurs at the state level.

When the Congressional Budget Office considered the idea of a health insurance mandate back in 1994 under the Clinton administration, it concluded that the mandate would be "an unprecedented form of federal action." The only congressional mandate close to that was the draft, the CBO concluded.

Ensign cited that finding in his complaint.

Still, the legislation does provide for federal subsidies for those who might have trouble affording insurance coverage, and it provides for exemptions for some individuals.

Other legal objections are emerging in the wake of a concession that Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., won for his state as a condition for his support of the health care bill. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid agreed to provide for full and permanent federal aid for Nebraska's expanded Medicaid population. It was only one of a slew of hand-crafted sweetheart deals for those senators who agreed to support the bill.

But the Nelson deal swiftly drew the ire of Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who has asked his state's attorney general to give the issue a legal review. He told Fox News on Tuesday that other states can probably bring a "constitutional challenge" over the issue. He said it's unfair for one state to get special treatment while others pick up the tab.

"I don't believe most senators believe this is OK," Graham said. "I think it stinks. I think it's sleazy."

Graham said his state could file an equal rights suit under the Constitution. The Constitution calls for "equal protection" of all citizens.

Likewise, two Republican state representatives from Tennessee on Monday asked their state attorney general to look into the issue -- they called the Medicaid expansion an "unfunded mandate."

Rep. Debra Young Maggart and Rep. Susan Lynn claimed the Nebraska deal was unfair to other states and asked that Attorney General Robert Cooper take "appropriate legal action" against the federal government if the bill becomes law.

"It is clear by the wording of the legislation itself that not every state would face a similar and equal burden," they wrote. "We see this as a violation of equal protection of the law, an affront to our sovereignty, and a breach of the U.S. Constitution."

The non-profit Liberty Legal Institute is poised to assist states that are considering filing suit against the government over the health care bill. The group would not disclose where the suits might come from, but claimed great interest in putting health care reform to the legal test.

"There are a lot of states that are concerned that this violated the 10th Amendment and they are weighing their options," Kelly Shackelford, chief counsel, said in a statement.

The 10th Amendment declares that powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution are "reserved" for the states or "the people."

Still another challenge is coming from Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., who on the Senate floor raised concerns about a section in the health care bill that appears to say that the Senate cannot make changes to it in the future.

"It shall not be in order in the Senate or the House of Representatives to consider any bill, resolution, amendment, or conference report that would repeal or otherwise change this subsection," the section says.

DeMint said he found that "particularly troubling."

"We will be passing a new law and at the same time creating a Senate rule that makes it out of order to amend or even repeal the law," DeMint said. "I'm not even sure that it's constitutional."

The overall section the senator referred to applied to the creation of an Independent Medicare Advisory Board.

But a senior Reid aide noted that the language restricting the repeal of the measure only applied to one subsection -- a subsection dealing with the manner in which the proposal for the board is introduced and considered in Congress. The aide said the language DeMint found "troubling" did not apply to board or its duties as a whole.

Plus the aide noted that the language can be waived by a 60-vote majority in the Senate.

"It's really a sign of desperation," the aide said.

White House Escalates War of Words With Fox News

Calling Fox News "a wing of the Republican Party," the Obama administration on Sunday escalated its war of words against the channel, even as observers questioned the wisdom of a White House war on a news organization.

"What I think is fair to say about Fox -- and certainly it's the way we view it -- is that it really is more a wing of the Republican Party," said Anita Dunn, White House communications director, on CNN. "They take their talking points, put them on the air; take their opposition research, put them on the air. And that's fine. But let's not pretend they're a news network the way CNN is."

Fox News senior vice president Michael Clemente, who likens the channel to a newspaper with separate sections on straight news and commentary, suggested White House officials were intentionally conflating opinion show hosts like Glenn Beck with news reporters like Major Garrett.

"It's astounding the White House cannot distinguish between news and opinion programming," Clemente said. "It seems self-serving on their part."

In recent weeks, the White House has begun using its government blog to directly attack what it called "Fox lies." David Gergen, who has worked for President Bill Clinton and three Republican presidents, questioned the propriety of the White House declaring war on a news organization.

"It's a very risky strategy. It's not one that I would advocate," Gergen said on CNN. "If you're going to get very personal against the media, you're going to find that the animosities are just going to deepen. And you're going to find that you sort of almost draw viewers and readers to the people you're attacking. You build them up in some ways, you give them stature."

He added: "The press always has the last barrel of ink."

Gergen's sentiments were echoed by Tony Blankley, who once served as press secretary to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

"Going after a news organization, in my experience, is always a loser," Blankley said on CNN. "They have a big audience. And Fox has an audience of not just conservatives -- they've got liberals and moderates who watch too. They've got Obama supporters who are watching. So it's a temptation for a politician, but it needs to be resisted."

Nia Malika Henderson, White House correspondent for the Politico newspaper, also questioned the White House offensive against Fox.

"Obama's only been a boon to their ratings and I don't understand how this kind of escalation of rhetoric and kind of taking them on, one on one, would do anything other than escalate their ratings even more," she said.

Dunn used an appearance on CNN's "Reliable Sources" over the weekend to complain about Fox News' coverage of the Obama presidential campaign a year ago.

"It was a time this country was in two wars," she recalled. "We'd had a financial collapse probably more significant than any financial collapse since the Great Depression. If you were a Fox News viewer in the fall election, what you would have seen would have been that the biggest stories and biggest threats facing America were a guy named Bill Ayers and something called ACORN."

Ayers was co-founder of the Weather Underground, a communist terrorist group that bombed the Pentagon and other buildings in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1995, Ayers hosted Obama at his home for a political function and the two men later served together on the board of an anti-poverty group known as the Woods Fund.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), which once had close ties to Obama, has been accused by a variety of law enforcement agencies of voter fraud. In recent weeks, the Democrat-controlled Congress moved to sever funding to ACORN after Fox News aired undercover videotapes of ACORN employees giving advice on how to break the law to a pair of journalists disguised as a pimp and prostitute.

As for Dunn's complaint about Fox News' coverage of the Obama campaign, a study by the Pew Research Center showed that 40 percent of Fox News stories on Obama in the last six weeks of the campaign were negative. Similarly, 40 percent of Fox News' stories on Obama's Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain, were negative.

On CNN, by contrast, there was a 22-point disparity in the percentage of negative stories on Obama (39 percent) and McCain (61 percent). The disparity was even greater at MSNBC, according to Pew, where just 14 percent of Obama stories were negative, compared to a whopping 73 percent of McCain stories -- a spread of 59 points.

Although Dunn accused Fox News of being a "wing of the Republican Party," she said the
network does not champion conservatism.

"It's not ideological," she acknowledged. "I mean, obviously, there are many commentators who are conservative, liberal, centrist -- and everybody understands that."

Still, Obama refused to appear on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace on Sept. 20, the day he appeared on five other Sunday shows. At the time, the White House characterized the snub as payback for the Fox Broadcast Network's decision not to air an Obama prime time appearance. But last weekend, Dunn blamed Fox News Channel's coverage of the administration for Obama's snub of Fox News Sunday.

"Is this why he did not appear?" Dunn said. "The answer is yes."
Wallace has called White House officials "the biggest bunch of crybabies I have dealt with in my 30 years in Washington."

Dunn was asked by CNN's Howard Kurtz whether Obama would grant an interview to Fox News by the end of the year.

"Obviously, he'll go on Fox, because he engages with ideological opponents and he has done that before, he will do it again," Dunn replied. "I can't give you a date, because frankly I can't give you dates for anybody else right now."

But last week, Fox News was informed by the White House that Obama would grant no interviews to the channel until at least 2010. The edict was relayed to Fox News by a White House official after Dunn discussed the channel at a meeting with presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs and other Obama advisers.

"What I will say is that when he (Obama) goes on Fox, he understands he's not going on it really as a news network, at this point," Dunn said on CNN. "He's going on to debate the opposition. And that's fine. He never minds doing that."

Dunn also strongly implied that Fox had failed to follow up on a New York Times story about a scandal swirling around GOP Sen. John Ensign of Nevada, although Fox News broadcast the stories on numerous shows, including Special Report with Bret Baier.

Clemente questioned the motives of the White House attack, which comes in the wake of an informal coffee last month between Fox chairman Roger Ailes and Obama adviser David Axelrod.

"Instead of governing, the White House continues to be in campaign mode, and Fox News is the target of their attack mentality," he said. "Perhaps the energy would be better spent on the critical issues that voters are worried about."

Blankley suggested the war on Fox News is unpresidential.

"It lowers the prestige," he said. "If you're president or speaker, at a certain level, you don't want to be seen to be engaging that kind of petty bickering. If you're just a congressman, maybe you can do it."

In an interview over the summer, Obama made clear that Fox News has gotten under his skin.
"I've got one television station that is entirely devoted to attacking my administration," he told CNBC's John Harwood. "You'd be hard pressed if you watched the entire day to find a positive story about me on that front."

At the White House Correspondents Dinner in May, Obama even mocked the media for supporting him.

"Most of you covered me; all of you voted for me," Obama said, spurring laughter and applause from the assembled journalists. "Apologies to the Fox table."

Gergen said the White House should delegate its attacks to outside support groups.

"Why don't they take this over to the DNC, over to the Democratic National Committee, and have their struggles like that fought out over there and not out of the White House?" Gergen
said. "I have real questions about that strategy."

Florida Rep. Alan Grayson, who has drawn fire for saying Republicans want Americans to "die quickly" if they get sick, expressed regret Friday for comparing the health care crisis to a "holocaust."
Grayson vowed not to use the term again in a letter he sent Friday to the Andrew Rosenkranz, Florida regional director of the Anti-Defamation League, a prominent Jewish organization that fights anti-Semitism.
Grayson evoked the Holocaust during a speech on the House floor Wednesday even though he wasn't referring to the genocide of European Jews in Nazi concentration camps during World War II.

"I apologize to the dead and their families that we haven't voted sooner to end this holocaust in America."

First off, the Republican's have not denied the fact that there are serious problems with our health care system. To libel them and say that we want people to die is outrageous, unrepresentative and totally untrue! We are not arguing that Harvard study, we are arguing about the way to change that number.

Grayson has taken this debate to a whole new level that is ridiculous and childish. The solutions that the Republican are providing are different from the solutions that the Democrats are providing. We need to stop attacking each other for believing differently and start focusing on fixing the problem without this childish name calling. My question is where is the teacher who will send all these petulant children to detention for disrupting the classroom?

And I need to mention how disgusted I am with Grayson's use of the word "holocaust"! The connotations that word carries are so extreme that it is inconceivable to compare the 30-40 thousand uninsured American to the 11 million that were massacred in Nazi Germany. I also find it HYSTERICAL that suddenly the Democrats are making Nazi references. I doubt that anyone will attack them like they have when Republicans dare mention anything from Nazi Germany.

Congressman Alan Grayson (D-FL) warned Americans about the GOP plan for health care. During an after-hours House floor speech Tuesday night Grayson said the GOP health care plans consists of: Part one, don’t get sick. Part two, if you do get sick, die quickly.

“That’s right,” Grayson said, “the Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick….This is what the Republicans want you to do.”

House Republicans quickly jumped on the remarks calling on Grayson to apologize. He did not.

"Alan Grayson reached a new low tonight," said Andy Sere, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. "We'd ask him to apologize -- and he should, immediately -- but we've watched him long enough to know that he's not capable of shame."

Yet Another First for the American Presidency

An article on NBC broke the news that Obama is going to Copenhagen to push for Chicago's bid to the 2016 Olympics Games. Obama is the first American president who is travelling to the International Olympics Committee vote.

How much money does it cost us to travel internationally?
Is this really the most important issue for our President?
Why would he push for the Olympics to be held in the U.S. when most Olympic cities loose money in the long run? Aren't we in enough financial trouble?

This is just another example of Obama's lack of proper focus and his disregard for our financial situation.

Is our President tackling the Afghanistan War? The Health Care Debate? The Economy? No, he is going to to Europe to encourage them to have an event in the United States that will likely leave his "beloved city" in debt. Not to mention the corruption of the Chicago politicians. I can just see the breaking news now. Chicago has some of the most corrupt politicians in the country and the idea of them handling this financial mess is a little frightening.


Apart from Los Angeles in 1984, every Olympics has lost in the end. (Bejing doesn't count since there is no transparency and they don't pay their workers competitive rates.) The 2012 London Olympics have already run up a $15 billion bill with more to come. Since the economy is bad, much of the private donations has become obsolete. The government has been forced to step in and drain the contingency fund more quickly than expected. The Montreal Games were a financial disaster: costs spiraled to four times their original estimate, and Canada only finished paying back the debt three years ago after heavy borrowing.

How about we talk about the cost of having Obama travel to Copenhagen?? Considering that just to run the presidential jet for an hour can cost anywhere from $34,000 to $56,000 this little hop across the pond is pretty pricey. Also consider that there are at least 2 planes that travel with the President. Not to mention the cost of security for the President AND the accommodations, food, other travel costs for all those traveling in the entourage. I mean! C'mon, this is not going to be just a couple thousand dollars!

HANNITY: And ladies and gentlemen, you are looking live at the thousands of people who have shown up here in the Central Valley of California. They want their farms back, they want their jobs back, and they want the water turned back on.

Now, tonight, you are going to hear from some of the politicians who are fighting on behalf of the citizens in this region. We will also talk to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. And we will even hear from an environmentalist who is actually defending the government's decision that are responsible for drying up this once fertile area. But first.

First we're joined by two people who have gone to great links to shine the light on this crisis. Comedian, activist, Paul Rodriguez. Radio talk show host from KMJ, KERN, Inga Barks.

Well, first of all, you, Paul, you've been in this now, in this fight, this battle that has been going on for far too long. There has been a natural drought. But they have all this water that they are sending to the ocean rather to the farms because of this little delta smelt. Can you explain what's going on?

RODRIGUEZ: Sean, I'm glad you're here because less than half a mile away from us right here there's a canal that's full to the brim of water. Come here and see that. Right next to it you see fields that are dry that should be fertile right now.

HANNITY: There is a political side to this, Paul. And by the way, we won't hold it against Paul, but you supported Barack Obama.

You know, I know in my heart that when the American farmer realize in Iowa and the other parts of America, they realize that we need help, they'll come to our aid simply because whenever our enemies get into trouble, if North Korea right now were to have an earthquake, I know that the first plane would be an American plane with aid there that would allow us to land, right?

If we would have that kind of generosity towards our enemies, what would we do for ourselves?

HANNITY: And by the way I think — wait. And I think — you are the farmers that have sustained the entire country for decades. We have generations of farmers here, Inga. And they are losing their farms. We have hundreds and hundreds of thousands of acres. We literally have — I met people earlier that now are on food lines because their farms have been shut down.

INGA BARKS, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST FOR KERN: No, that, to me, is the part that is most immoral thing about all of this. We really are in the bread basket of the world. We feed the world. Our food goes to third world countries and helps people. We are their main staples, we feed everybody here. And yet we have our own standing in food lines?

HANNITY: Yes.

BARKS: And the food is coming in creates — crates that say products of China?

HANNITY: Yes.

BARKS: I mean.

BARKS: It's stunning. It's stunning.

RODRIGUEZ: It's a bad comedy. It's a bad joke. You know, there is no need for. We're not asking the government for a rebate. We're not asking for a handout. We don't want to turn in our trucks, because our old trucks work just fine.

HANNITY: Yes.

HANNITY: All right, but listen, I would like to put aside politics because if Barack Obama allows — tells his environmental extremists in his administration to stand down and turn the water on, he will get the first credit from me, OK? So.

HANNITY: Have you reached out to the president and.

RODRIGUEZ: We have, Sean, right behind you we have a letter that we wrote to the current administration saying we realize you came in at a time when you didn't have it all. You know we understand you came in handicapped. We're giving you the benefit of the doubt.

I still have respect for the office of the president. But behind me is a signed by every single mayor of every community here in the San Joaquin Valley. I think that should get some kind of attention.

HANNITY: Wait a minute, but he just appointed this guy that — Sunstein that is such an environmental extremist that he wants to ban hunting and he says that animals ought to have human representation in court.

RODRIGUEZ: All we want is water.

RODRIGUEZ: You know, you couldn't write this.

BARKS: No, you can't. You can't.

RODRIGUEZ: This is why I know that people who look more into the issue – say they are making that up.

Ladies and gentlemen, we're not making this up. I'm so glad you're here because the very person — you know, Senator Feinstein came here.

HANNITY: Yes.

RODRIGUEZ: And had David Hayes, the undersecretary of.

BARKS: Interior.

RODRIGUEZ: Of the Interior.

HANNITY: The Interior — Salazar came out here.

BARKS: Salazar came.

RODRIGUEZ: Right. Came on here. And said.

HANNITY: Nothing happened.

RODRIGUEZ: Nothing happened. Look at our fields.

BARKS: And let me add, Sean, I'm sorry, President Obama never visited here when he was running and he never visited here since. He knows what's happening here. He sends his people out. He makes his promises.

HANNITY: The big issue here is...

BARKS: Would he have not have gone to Katrina the day after?

HANNITY: But this really comes down to — and I don't know if we have explained this well enough but in the course of this program we're going to get into the specifics of this. Literally, the environmentalists and the Interior Department, they have all made a decision that, for example, the water can be pumped here.

BARKS: Yes.

RODRIGUEZ: Through here.

HANNITY: To defend this little two inch delta smelt fish. They have decided that the farmers come second and the delta smelt comes first.

RODRIGUEZ: I, in my heart, I can't find all the reasons. In my heart I believe that maybe the president hasn't seen this. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

BARKS: You're kind.

HANNITY: How long does he get the benefit of the doubt?

BARKS: Yes.

RODRIGUEZ: We don't have much time. But I still hold hope that at least he would look at a document. You know? I mean, but if that doesn't happen, we have no other choice but to scream loud.

HANNITY: We've got — literally, we've got —we have the evidence of farmers now that have been providing food in some cases for generations, passed on from generation to generations.

BARKS: Yes.

HANNITY: They're waiting for food. How much longer do we have to wait before they turn the water on?

BARKS: In fact, ironically, environmentalists who hate development and growth, guess what farmers do with their land and they can't farm on it anymore. They sell it to people to build houses on. And it's — this is what we're doing to these people, putting them out of business, and the only way they can make money is selling their land.

RODRIGUEZ: Yes, this is where you want to live, with no water. I can't wait to buy a house. This is the San Joaquin Valley. Without a doubt, the most fertile, this is the Canaan. This is the land of Canaan. This is the most fertile valley on the planet. This valley would feed the world.

BARKS: That's all we want.

HANNITY: I have some numbers. You guys grow more — if you look at the option.

RODRIGUEZ: We're the capital of everything. The capital of cantaloupes is here.

HANNITY: Almonds, cantaloupes, artichokes, olives.

RODRIGUEZ: Keep talking!

HANNITY: Grapes, strawberries.

RODRIGUEZ: That is now the only thing that grows here is despair. We have a good crop of that.

HANNITY: All right, I want you to call — you voted for Barack Obama. Maybe.

RODRIGUEZ: You are not going to let this go away!

HANNITY: I want you to look into the camera right there. And you talk to the president you voted for, the guy that's promised hope and change. What do you say to him?

RODRIGUEZ: Mr. President, with all due respect, we pray that you will read our letter and look at our dilemma. We don't want you to give us a loan. We didn't do anything wrong. We did everything right. We grew more food than anybody else with less water. And for that, our reward was you cut the water off. Come on, what's up?

Pelosi Chokes Up Warning Against Political "Violence": UPDATED

What she means:
I'm concerned that all this information is going to affect how much power I have, so why don't you all calm down and focus your energy on drinking the Kool Aid...

Republican Denounce Pelosi for Warning Against 'Incitement'

The House Republicans' top campaign chief strongly denounced Speaker Nancy Pelosi's comments that appeared to question whether today's angry conservative protests were similar to anti-gay rallies in the late 1970s that preceded the assassination of two San Francisco political leaders.

Rep. Pete Sessions (Texas), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said Pelosi crossed the line when she related the rhetoric of anti-gay protesters in San Francisco in 1978 -- the year Harvey Milk, the first openly gay member of the city's board of supervisors, and his political ally, Mayor George Moscone, were killed by former supervisor Dan White -- to that of contemporary conservatives while answering a question about the protests against President Obama's health-care proposals.

"The Speaker is now likening genuine opposition to assassination. Such insulting rhetoric not only undermines the credibility of her office, but it underscores the desperate attempt by her party to divert attention away from a failing agenda," Sessions said in a statement. "During one of the most important policy debates of our time, the American people have been completely abandoned by those elected representatives under her control. Voters are justifiably frustrated with Washington, and the Speaker's verbal assault on voters accomplishes nothing other than furthering her reputation for being wildly out of touch with the American people."

Maxine Waters, the Congresswoman who called Senators that oppose the bill Neanderthals, says that they will pressure them to accept the bill and claims that "we will say to the President we want you to use every weapon in you basket to get those Senators to do what they are doing." is featured in this video where there is a very significant slip of the tongue.

Is it really that unreasonable to think that part of our elected officials want socialism?

CC: Propraganda Similarities

As someone who has studied propaganda films as well, as had propaganda victims within my family I think a lot of the disgust and fear I have for the 'I Pledge' video has deeper roots.

I see it as a very bold step in the wrong direction with messages delivered by many people whose voices are influential for the ill-informed Americans. When I watched this video I thought of two things, Triumph of the Will and my uncle.

Triumph of the Will, a Germany propaganda documentary by Leni Rienfenstahl is hands down one of the most brilliant documentaries and most scary portraits ever presented to the world. I'll never forget when we watched it in my doc film class my professor told us that we might be confused at the end of the night and boy was he right!

Technically, this film is superb and the information it provides about Hilter's Germany is both terrifying and tantalizing. After watching this film one could easily see how people feel in love with the idea of Hitler. The idea of serving him or helping him improve the country. The film promotes ideology that is both rational, heartfelt and reasonable. Much like many of the ideas seen in the "I Pledge" video.

If I remember correctly some of the main themes in Triumph of the Will was unity, so there is no big wonder why the 'I Pledge' video made me remember this historical propaganda doc. I dug a little through my old college paper and found a few important quotes, "The Party is Hitler - and Hitler is Germany just as Germany is Hitler!" Also, at a youth rally: "As you selflessly work for this nation...As you are loyal to us, so will we be loyal to you."

Now, I realize that they aren't saying the same exact words but there is something eeirly creepy about this scene compared with the 'I Pledge' video. The chanting. The "for the good of the whole" mentality. The environmental undertones. The exhalation of the leader. These qualities are what led me to classify the 'I Pledge' video as undoubted propaganda!

Now, you heard me mention my uncle wayyyy up at the top of the post. Well, I wanted to share a little personal story that I've been hearing my whole life. As many of you probably know already, my family is Cuban and my uncle, specifically, had a very disturbing run in with some creative education.

My uncle was just going into first grade when Fidel was just getting vocal about his true political goals. My grandmother told me that one day my tio came home and was sitting at the table having a snack when she asked him how his day was and he said that Fidel had visited his school. My grandmother, not quite understanding asked him to explain. This is what he said,

"Well, the teacher had us all take everything off our desk and close our eyes. Then she asked us to pray to God for a piece of candy. So everyone prayed and when we opened our eyes there was no candy on our desks. So then the teacher told us to close our eyes again and this time to pray to Fidel for a piece of candy and we opened our eyes and everyone had a piece of candy on their desk!"

Can you imagine first grade students in Utah when they went home... "Mommy, we learned to serve our President today!" I don't know about you but that sounds kinda similar to, "Mommy we learned to worship Fidel today."

I immediately thought of this story when I saw the 'I Pledge' video earlier this week and I wanted to take a moment and explain why I was so greatly affected by the YouTube video. These couple of examples are just a few personal 'off the cuff' facts that came to my mind when I saw the ad. They are by no means the most wonderful or perfect examples for why this video is scary.

Even though this video is fishy, it is by no means a one time example of the indoctrination that the youth of this country is facing on a daily basis. I'm going to do a little researching on this, but on the radio today I was listening to FoxNews talk about the textbooks. The facts that our children are using to learn, or I should say, not learn the truth about American History. Textbook "writers" are creating this rose-colored fairytale about U.S. History that are simply inaccurate in so many ways. They have been slowly indoctrination students for years!!

My mother said something to me today and as each hour passes I'm more and more convinced shes right. She said, "This country is going to destroy itself from the inside out and the roots started growing a long time ago." I really hope that she is wrong in this case but I know I can't sit around and just hope.

When I have kids I know I'm going to become aware of what they are are learning. I know its difficult but it is so important to teach your children the real foundation, history and beliefs of this country. This is blatantly pushing the leftist agendas and promoting some unnatural service to Obama...I was scared before, but this has just completely and utterly frightened me!

Parents upset over 'leftist propaganda' video

A school principal has apologized for showing a video at an assembly that a politically conservative group leader is calling "radical, leftist propaganda."

Children at Eagle Bay Elementary School in Farmington were shown a short video called "I pledge" on Aug. 28. The video opens with an image of President Barack Obama and part of a speech in which he says, "Let us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves but each other." The video then features celebrities making pledges about how they will help the president and the world -- and that's where some say the problem lies.

Many pledges, such as supporting local food banks, smiling more, and caring for the elderly are noncontroversial. But other pledges, such as "to never give anyone the finger when I'm driving again," "to sell my obnoxious car and buy a hybrid" and to advance stem cell research cross the line, some say.

"Showing the video in a public school is completely inappropriate," said Jennifer Cieslewicz, whose daughter is a first-grader at the school. "I don't believe a video such as this that promotes certain values should be shown to elementary students, especially without parents being aware. "

Chris Williams, Davis School District spokesman, said school principal Ofelia Wade and school PTA leaders decided to show the video as part of an assembly about the school's theme for the year, service. He said the PTA board chose the video and Wade did not see it before it was shown in the assembly.

"It got to a point where she turned to her assistant and said, 'Oops, I wish I would have seen this before. I don't think I would have shown it,' " Williams said. He said Wade could see how some adults might find the video political.

"She acknowledges she was wrong and apologizes for it and says she's sorry," Williams said. Attempts to reach school PTA leaders Tuesday evening were unsuccessful.

Williams said Wade plans to send a letter home to parents Wednesday about the issue.

Gayle Ruzicka, president of conservative Utah Eagle Forum, said the video was blatantly political. She said other offensive pledges included, "I pledge to be of service to Barack Obama," "I pledge allegiance to the funk, to the united funk of funkadelica," and pledges to not use plastic grocery bags and not flush the toilet after urinating.

"It's very inappropriate to show a radical, leftist propaganda piece that political to children," Ruzicka said. "If parents want their children to learn about those things and do them in the home, wonderful, fine, but it's not the place of the school to show a one-sided propaganda piece to children without parents knowing about it."

Cieslewicz said such values should be decided in the home, not at school.

"They shouldn't be troubling our youth with the woes of the world and making them feel like we're in slavery or they have to worry about how many times they flush the toilet or if they have a plastic water bottle," Cieslewicz said, referring to pledges in the video to "end slavery."

Ruzicka said she contacted local media about the video after receiving complaints from several parents. Ruzicka said she worried the video's messages would confuse children whose parents might choose to use plastic bags when shopping or who want their children to flush the toilet after every use. Also she said she didn't like a pledge "to be of service to Barack Obama" as he is here to serve Americans, not the other way around.

Ruzicka said she'd like to see the school district send a link to the video to all parents before an upcoming back-to-school night so they can voice their opinions and discuss it with their children. Williams said it's unlikely the district will send out a link, but parents are welcome to access the video on YouTube.

A Cuban-American's History Lesson for Diane Watson:

Castro must have given Watson some Materva (aka Cuban Kool-Aid) because she has a terribly distorted view of Cuban history. The beginning of this audio has Watson talking about our "philosophical leader" Rush and how people are trying sabotage the first president we've had "that looks like me [Waston]". Then she goes on to talk about what a brilliant leader Fidel Castro is! (1 min, 49 sec) Contrary to Watson's comment, Fidel did have plenty of blood on his hands before and after he took control of Cuba. She has no idea about the real history of Cuba...after the video, I'll go ahead and give you some juicy information.

On a personal note, both my parent's were born in Cuba. All my grandparent were active aware citizens during the Cuban Revolution and their lives were greatly affected by the communist dictator, Fidel Castro. Here is the way that the Cuban Revolution went down according to the things that I know, learned and heard around the dining room table.

Batista (who served 1 term as president of Cuba in the 1940's) was in office when Fidel took over. In 1952 Batista staged a military coup and took over the government 2 months before the democratic election took place. Under Batista's rule Cuba started to delve into gambling and prostitution, but there were still most of the freedoms we have here in the U.S. today. Fidel would come to 'liberated Cuba' from an unelected leader, but who was going to think that the liberator would be a cruel, paranoid communist.

Fidel, a young lawyer from a wealthy family, led an attack on some barracks near Santiago de Cuba in 1953. It failed miserably and Castro ended up going to jail for only 3 of his 15 year sentence. In 1956 he was released and went into exile in Mexico, which is where Ernesto 'Che' Guevara came into the picture. Now Che is not the hero that so many make him out to be. He doesn't deserve to be on any t-shirt or poster because he is not a man to be idealized. He was a Marxist revolutionary, but he was also a rapist, murder, a thief. A common thug elevated to a God-like status among idealistic youths.

While in Mexico, Fidel organized the Movimiento 26, de Julio (26th of July Movement) where a group of men sailed over to Cuba to overthrow Batista. (Sidenote: I found out later in life that July 26th was my original due date and my grandfather told my mom to hold her legs together if she went into labor that day, fortunately I was late) Not surprisingly, most of the men were killed. Yet Che, Fidel and a dozen or so men escaped to Sierra Maestra mountains where they hid out for years, collecting disenfranchised men into an eager militia. For the next two years, Fidel was idolized by many Cubans. Many people believed in his cause because he claimed to want to restore Cuba to the old democracy.Many people were hopeful that Fidel would bring about the change they needed. Sound familiar??

Another sidenote, specifically my maternal grandfather was not blinded by Fidel's "change". He was very vocal about his disapproval of "la revolucion" and beyond being very vocal , he wrote a lot of commentaries that would later lead him to have to be flagged by the new regime. Eventually my grandparents had to sneak out of the country to avoid being torn apart by Fidel's purging of 'anti-revolutionary' minds. They didn't have internet in 1959, but does any of this sound remotely familiar?

Fidel and Che's guerrilla warfare grew exponentially in everything from attacks on Batista's men to advances like Radio Rebelde, a revolutionary radio station where Fidel first gave his addresses' to the people of Cuba. Fidel's had fewer men than the Cuban army but they were better trained and knew their surroundings, the mountains, remarkably well.

On December 31, 1958 the city of Santa Clara was captured by Fidel's men. Batista panicked and fled the country. I can hear my grandmother's voice now, "el primero de enero de ano 59, Fidel entro a la capital, y todavia no se ha ido." Fidel marched into Havana and seized power, sans oppositions on July 1, 1959. He was received like a Messiah. In reality he didn't arrive until the 8th but whose counting.

Since he didn't come right out and say that he was a communist, even appointing another man President for a while, most people were hopeful that Fidel would be the change they needed. But all too soon, Fidel took over and started to make changes pretty quickly.

Within just a couple years, life in Cuba had drastically changed. Here are some of the main changes he made to restrict freedom and competition: (I'm saying change a lot--I feel like Barry O!)

• Purged (aka killed) political opponents from the administration
• Groups such as labor unions were made illegal.
• Within the year all opposition newspapers had been closed down and all radio and television stations were in state control.
• Private Companies were confiscated
• Teachers and professors were purged.
• The Communist Party strengthened its one-party rule, with Castro as the supreme leader.
• Moderates were arrested.
• Neighborhood watch systems known as committees for the defense of the revolution (CDR) were created so on every block there was at least one resident that would "report fishy activity"...hmmmm
• The Communist party remains the only recognized political party in Cuba.
  
• Other parties, though not illegal, are unable to campaign or conduct any activities on the island that could be deemed counter-revolutionary.

No wonder there have been so many exodus' from Cuba! Things have only become worse over the years, including lack of parental choice when it comes to raising their own children. Around the age of 15 children are taken away to work in the sugar cane fields where many rapes and young pregnancies occur. Most recently the country has run out of toilet paper and won't be receiving another shipment until next year. Banana leaves?

Is this the kind of place that should be idolized? Would you want to visit a doctor in one of those hospitals?

In the early 1990's I had a great-aunt go to the doctor (in Cuba) and he found a lump in her breast. Do you think she got a mammogram? Nope! The only machine in Havana was broken. So without knowing if it was cancer or not, they doctor performed a mastectomy.

Now, she was already a little older, but the same things happen to women of all ages during that time. Can you imagine being in that situation? No ability to know if you have cancer or not. As a woman I can't imagine going through all the emotional and hormonal changes, still not knowing if they got all the cancer. Not knowing if I should still worry. You loose such a big part of yourself, but you loose a lot more than flesh.

My whole life I've heard about the atrocities of Cuban life not only from my family and friends but from my nail lady, from the hair dresser, from the doctor, the lawyer, the mayor. Cuba is such a little island compared to the United States and yet there are so many Cubans that live here. Do you think that is by chance?

The early Cubans that came over were the middle and upper classes. The ones that foresaw the pitfalls of communism, the ones that would not benefit from this new government 'handouts'. The intellectuals, the doctors the lawyers, they wouldn't be able to live their lives in Cuba anymore. Don't think those lawyers, engineers and doctors became lawyers engineers and doctors in the United States. They became truck drivers, janitors, construction and factory workers.

But I can say with great pride and total confidence that Cuban's have made more of the American dream than any other Hispanic group up to this date. First-, Second-Generation Cubans are now members of the same professions and economic status' of their fathers and grandfathers. Just look at me, I'm a first generation American and I have graduated college and am going to law school. I have aunts and cousins who have PhD. Friends who own their own successful companies.

To make my point, as many Communist countries do, Cuba has gone indoctrinating its citizens and so as generation after generation arrives here they are perpetually more lazy and more dependent upon the government. They expect the government to give them everything they need because that is all they've ever known. Sound a little familiar? But that is not the true Cuban mentality, it is a mentality that has been warped by 50 years of communism.

At the very core of a Cuban's heart is pride, in themselves, in their work and their country. Us Cuban-Americans are fiercely prideful of where we come from, but we are just as proud of where we are. The country that adopted the refugees, the saddened, the demoralized and gave them the opportunity to be intellectuals and professionals again. Gave them the opportunity to educate and improve thier lives tenfold.

Yet here we are standing next to so many other Americans' facing a time in our adopted countries history where people are hoping for change. Sound familiar? I know that so many of us worry that we the people have chosen the wrong kind of change. Sound familiar? Beware. I plead with Americans, don't let your desire for change lead you down a path to a place you no longer recognize.

Chick Chat: Truth will set you free right?

Every once in a while I can't help but feel discouraged with the direction this country is going. I spend most of my free time researching, reading, writing about these major issues going on and yet I still feel completely helpless. Even going to the protests and the meetings, I still feel helpless. Every couple of weeks I start watching the news and see the spending and the socialism creeping up and I feel like I am swimming against the current and going absolutely no where. Because this isn’t about health care or spending, it’s about dependency, control and accepting all those things that are morally repugnant.

I never thought I would say this, but I can sympathies with the liberals who truly hated Bush. They would look at this and say stop whining because we had to put up with your idiot for 8 years. My problem is that I often wonder if we would survive another 4/8 years of this. I know Bush made mistakes during his presidency but I at least felt safe. Safe from foreign attacks, safe from our government and safe to speak out. I don't always feel so safe speaking out.

People in my family joke that we are all going to be thrown in a family cell one day because we are all so outspoken about our viewpoints. I'm starting to think its not that funny anymore. I don't know what will happen a few years down the road and the more research that I do, the less I feel I know.

I write this because I hope that there are more out there like me. I can't imagine I'm the only one that is tired of being on the wrong side of what is popular, what is easy, what is wealthy, what is powerful.

I take that back, the truth is powerful. "Truth will set you free" right? But where is the truth now? Is it being hidden?

Truth...Come out, come out, wherever you are!!

I just hope that the truth can overcome the layers and layers of bureaucracy and corruption. I’m not particularly religious person, but tonight I'll say an extra prayer for America.

I pray that we are given the strength to search for the truth. I pray that we are given the strength to spread the truth we uncover. I pray that we are given the strength to live by the principles of the truth we seek. I pray that those who need to hear the truth give us their attention. I pray that He doesn’t abandon America as we face our greatest threat yet. I pray that He hasn’t abandoned us already in our progressive secularization.I pray that we are given His guidance as we continue the ideological battle in which we are embroiled. I pray for His blessings.

Articles Spotlight: 8/9

Today was actually my birthday, so I didn't get a chance to do much research or anything but I do want to put up a few articles up that I think are of note. I know some information is a little behind but oh well, I never said I was the most well informed or up to date blogger, simply someone who wanted to chronicle what was going on.

• Real or Contrived? Lawmakers Argue Over Nature of Health Care Protest

Here is a good article about the supposed "organized" health care reform protesters. They make a good point about how this reflects a weakness in what they are presenting because if they were confident about the plan they wouldn't have to focus on the protesters and manipulate people into thinking that its a bad thing to voice your opinions to gov't officials.

This is amazing, I was always a huge Sarah Palin fan. It is really disappointing that she had to do what she did but it also gives her an opportunity to be a voice for the Republican party.

Alright so this whole "preservation of the line of succession" is totally understandable in the world we live today. So I understand that Pelosi, as the 2nd in line (God forbid something happens we would be stuck with that horrid woman) but getting back to the point she needs to be protected for the safety of our republic...or what is left of it.

Seriously though, these politicians are so out of touch with reality to think that they need state of the art air travel to get around. Upholding the safety of this nation does not need swanky accommodations. Think of the conditions our men and women in Afganistan and Iraq fight in, they are providing the ultimate safety for our country and they sure as hell aren't sitting in leather seats drinking out of crystal glasses.

• Consumer Protection Lost in Health Care Debates

• Chamber of Commerce to Oppose Obamacare

Probably one of the biggest issues in the Obamacare debate is the issue of consumer protection and I'm glad that there is an organization like the Chamber of Commerce that is fighting. It is so frustrating that the democrats play so dirty and I just hope the conservatives can get their act together and combat the health care reform. New information from this...people at different ages can be charged different amounts. So you can be charged more because you are 50, not more because you haven't wanted to invest in sunscreen and now have skin cancer.

An 11-yr old boy dies in the intense heat of Death Valley National Park after he and his mother became stranded. They survived for several days on bottled water, pop-tarts and cheese sandwiches.

If this is true...YIKES!

I have no idea if this is true or not but I really wouldn't be suprised if it was...No wonder our country is going down the drain so quickly.


A DC airport ticket agent offers some examples of 'why' our country is in trouble!

1. I had a New Hampshire Congresswoman (Carol Shea-Porter) ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn't get messed up by being near the window. (On an airplane!)

2. I got a call from a Kansas Congressman's (Moore) staffer (Howard Bauleke), who wanted to go to Capetown. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information, and then he interrupted me with, ''I'm not trying to make you look stupid, but Capetown is in Massachusetts .''

Without trying to make him look stupid, I calmly explained, ''Cape Cod is in Massachusetts , Capetown is in Africa ''

3. A senior Vermont Congressman (Bernie Sanders) called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando .. He said he was expecting an ocean-view room. I tried t o explain that's not possible, since Orlando is in the middle of the state.

He replied, 'don't lie to me, I looked on the map and Florida is a very thin state!'' (OMG)

4. I got a call from a lawmaker's wife (Landra Reid) who asked, ''Is it possible to see England from Canada ?''

I said, ''No.''

She said, ''But they look so close on the map.'' (OMG, again!)

5. An aide for a cabinet member (Janet Napolitano) once called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas . I pulled up the reservation and noticed he had only a 1-hour layover in Dallas . When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, ''I heard Dallas was a big airport, and we will need a car to drive between gates to save time.'' (Aghhhh)

6. An Illinois Congresswoman (Jan Schakowsky) called last week. She needed to know how it was possible that her flight from Detroit left at 8:30 a.m., and got to Chicago at8:33 a.m.

I explained that Michigan was an hour ahead of Illinois , but she couldn't understand the concept of time zones. Finally, I told her the plane went fast, and she bought that.

7. A New York lawmaker, (Jerrold Nadler) called and asked, ''Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to whom?'' I said, 'No, why do you ask?'

he replied, ''Well, when I checked in with the airline they put a tag on my luggage that said (FAT), and I'm overweight. I think that's very rude!''

After putting him on hold for a minute, while I looked into it. (I was dying laughing). I came back and explained the city code for Fresno , Ca. is (FAT - Fresno Air Terminal), and the airline was just putting a destination tag on his luggage.

8. A Senator John Kerry aide (Lindsay Ross) called to inquire about a trip package to Hawaii . After going over all the cost info, she asked, ''Would it be cheaper to fly to California and then take the train to Hawaii ?''

9. I just got off the phone with a freshman Congressman, Bobby Bright (D) from Alaska who asked, ''How do I know which plane to get on?''

I asked him what exactly he meant, to which he replied, ''I was told my flight number is 823, but none of these planes have numbers on them.''

10. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) called and said, ''I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola , Florida . Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?''

I asked if she meant fly to Pensacola , FL on a commuter plane.

She said, ''Yeah, whatever, smarty!''

11. Mary Landrieu (D) La. Senator called and had a question about the documents she needed in order to fly to China . After a lengthy discussion about passports, I reminded her that she needed a visa. 'Oh, no I don't. I've been to China many times and never had to have one of those.''

I double checked and sure enough, her stay required a visa. When I told her this she said, ''Look, I've been to China four times and every time they have accepted my American Express!''


12. A New Jersey Congressman (John Adler) called to make reservations, ''I want to go from Chicago to Rhino, New York ..''

I was at a loss for words. Finally, I said, ''Are you sure that's the name of the town?''

'Yes, what flights do you have?'' replied the man.

After some searching, I came back with, ''I'm sorry, sir, I've looked up every airport code in the country and can't find a rhino anywhere."

''The man retorted, ''Oh, don't be silly! Everyone knows where it is. Check your map!''

So I scoured a map of the state of New York and finally offered, ''You don't mean Buffalo , do you?''

The reply? ''Whatever! I knew it was a big animal.''

Now you know why the Government is in the shape that it's in!

Could anyone be this DUMB?
