Doctors tell Barack Obama to Quit Smoking: Guardian
Barack Obama is still struggling to kick smoking, according to his first medical examination since becoming president. Obama is sensitive about his cigarette habit and tetchy with reporters who raise it. But after his 90-minute medical at the Navy hospital outside Washington yesterday morning, his doctors confirmed he had not yet managed to conquer the habit and suggested he "continue smoking cessation efforts".
Pelosi's Brutal Reality Check: Politco
Asked this weekend to grade her performance as speaker, Nancy Pelosi gave herself an “A for effort.” But Pelosi knows that the real test is still to come. Pelosi is inarguably one of the strongest speakers in modern history — an authoritarian figure in an era of centralized power in the House. But the coming months are a make-or-break period for her, a brutal reality check of her ability to manage all aspects of her job — consensus-building, agenda-setting, vote-counting, fundraising and campaigning.
Pelosi: GOP has had its day; confident Dems can pull together on Health Bill: The Hill
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Sunday that Republicans have left their mark on the healthcare bill and should accept that the bill will go forward. "They've had plenty of opportunity to make their voices heard," she said on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday morning. "Bipartisanship is a two-way street. A bill can be bipartisan without bipartisan votes. Republicans have left their imprint."
Democrats' Obama bounce in California disappearing: AP
Hancock's frustration is evident throughout the nation's most populous state. Just a year ago, the Democratic Party looked at California as a base for adding to its majorities in Congress. Now, it could be a the place where it loses them.
Late Night GOP Wars: Letterman Pits Romney Against Leno's Palin: Deadline.com
Jay Leno made news when he announced that Sarah Palin will be among his high-profile guests when he returns to The Tonight Show next week. Now David Letterman's lineup for next week pits Mitt Romney against Sarah Palin on Tuesday night -- and the ratings may well provide clues on which probable GOP presidential contender may be most popular.
Supreme Court scrutinizes state, local gun control: MyWay
Gun control advocates think, if not pray, they can win by losing when the Supreme Court decides whether the constitutional right to possess guns serves as a check on state and local regulation of firearms. The justices will be deciding whether the Second Amendment - like much of the rest of the Bill of Rights - applies to states as well as the federal government. It's widely believed they will say it does.
Debra Medina, New Star of America's Right, Firing up TX Gov Race: Guardian
...Until Debra Medina, that is. When Medina breezed into Lytle's community hall the locals found themselves confronted with a Texan version of Sarah Palin. She wore a sharp scarlet skirt suit, librarian-style glasses and a puffed-up hairdo. More than 60 Lytle residents had gathered to meet her, a hefty turnout on a weekday at 11am for a Republican primary election in the race to be Texas governor.
Farrakhan predicts 'white right' trouble for Obama: AP
Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan, boasting his divine stature, on Sunday predicted trouble ahead for President Barack Obama and urged him to do more to improve the lives of blacks and the downtrodden. The 76-year-old leader said the "white right" was conspiring to make Obama a one-term president, and pointed to his stalled efforts to introduce health care legislation as proof. He said those opponents and lobbyists were trapping him into a future war with Iran that could lead to mass destruction.
Economy:
American Reliance on Government at All Time High: Washington Times
The so-called "Great Recession" has left Americans depending on the government dole like never before. Without record levels of welfare, unemployment and other government benefits as well as tax cuts last year, the income of U.S. households would have plunged by an astonishing $723 billion — more than four times the record $167 billion drop reported last month by the Commerce Department.
California is a greater risk than Greece, warns JP Morgan chief: Telegraph
Mr Dimon told investors at the Wall Street bank's annual meeting that "there could be contagion" if a state the size of California, the biggest of the United States, had problems making debt repayments. "Greece itself would not be an issue for this company, nor would any other country," said Mr Dimon. "We don't really foresee the European Union coming apart." The senior banker said that JP Morgan Chase and other US rivals are largely immune from the European debt crisis, as the risks have largely been hedged.
Foreign Affairs:
Putin: Russia to build new strategic bomber: Breitbart
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Monday that Russia will build a new strategic bomber, a move that comes as the nation tries to upgrade its aging military arsenal. Putin said in televised remarks that work on the bomber must follow the development of a prospective stealth fighter, which made its maiden flight in January and was hailed by the government as a big step in military modernization efforts.

Some Iraq, Afgan War Vets Criticize movie 'Hurt Locker' as Inaccurate: Washington Post
Time magazine called "The Hurt Locker" "a near-perfect war film," but Ryan Gallucci, an Iraq war veteran, had to turn the movie off three times, he says, "or else I would have thrown my remote through the television."
Survey: 26% of Americans get news via phones: Breitbart

Chick Chat: .33% of Americans are in the Military and they do good!
I was thinking about what to write about today, while catching up on watching and posting Steve Crowder's videos from You Tube (which we all know that I love) when I came across this particular one called MARINES INVADE HAITI!! Kind of makes me chuckle because for a couple months now I've been dating a man who is in the U.S. Reserves and the video really touched home.
Naturally I've learned a lot more about the military since I started things with my beau. I had never before realized how incredibly multifaceted they are. I always knew in the back of my mind that we did good along with the defense, but as Steve Crowder says, "the only thing the US Military does a bad job of doing is letting everyone know all the good that they are doing." I'm lucky enough to have learned so much more in the last couple of months, specifically since my beau's job in the Army is mostly about doing good.
I didn't know that there were specific area of the military that focus their energies solely on entering areas and creating good will among the people. Departments that focusing on helping others and improving the lives of those touched by disaster or corruption; men and women that enter dangerous areas to earn the trust of villages and elders by enhancing their way of life. Even if in return they are improving the relationship between America and the world, it is a small price to ask for the amount of good that people around the world are receiving from US Military.
I am at least grateful that here in the US people seem to have a better understanding of the good that our men and women do overseas. For some reason the beau was surprised when he recently had to make a trip into New York City in his ACU (I didn't know what those were 2 months ago so for all of us lacking army knowledge those are the camo-patterned uniforms we've all seen) people were so appreciative. Walking around he was asked to take photos with people, given free merchandise and tours, paid special attention too and mostly just thanked for his service to our country.
I thank God everyday that the vast majority of this country appreciates the sacrifice that such a small portion of American are willing to do. Just so we all have a better understanding here: only 1/3 of 1% of our country serves in the military. Such a small percentage defending so many!
When I heard that number, my heart went out even more to all those in the military. Despite where your opinion lies on the wars, we have a responsibility to support the men and women risking their lives for us! I know that I am not brave enough to take the risks and accept the sacrifices that come along with being a part of the military family. Are you?
I’m going to include the Crowder video below of course and if you have a chance to watch it please do. He makes some good points but he also has some touching footage of our military…footage that I am not used to seeing. We don’t get to see those kind of images on CNN, CNBC, FOX etc. Videos of American soldiers doing the good are not as news worthy as the footage of the mistakes.
So I will end this little rant by saying a big THANK YOU to all those men and women that are a lot braver than 99.66% of this country. You risk your lives: mind, soul and body to protect, defend and improve life for the rest of us. As meager as a simple thanks can be for all that you do, it is the least we can give you in return. Thank You and God Bless!

GOP 2012: Huckabee 29% Romney 24% Palin 18%
Twenty-nine percent (29%) of Republican voters nationwide say former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is their pick to represent the GOP in the 2012 Presidential campaign. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 24% prefer former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney while 18% would cast their vote for former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gets 14% of the vote while Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty gets 4%. Six percent (6%) of GOP voters prefer some other candidate while 7% remain undecided.
These numbers reflect an improvement for Huckabee since July when the three candidates were virtually even. Huckabee’s gain appears to be Palin’s loss as Romney’s support has barely changed.
The numbers for Huckabee and Romney look even stronger when GOP voters were asked which candidate they would least like to see get the nomination. Pawlenty came on top in that category with 28%. Palin was second at 21% while 20% named Gingrich. Romney and Huckabee were in the single digits with 9% and 8% respectively.
Huckabee and Romney are viewed favorably by 78% of Republican voters, Palin by 75%. Gingrich earns favorably reviews from 69% while Pawlenty is less well known and gets a positive assessment from 45% of Republicans.
Other data from the survey, including head-to-head match-ups with individual candidates, will be released over the weekend.
Republican voters are very confident their nominee could be the next President of the United States. Eighty-one percent (81%) of the GOP faithful say that it’s at least somewhat likely the Republican nominee will defeat Barack Obama in 2012. Fifty percent (50%) say it’s Very Likely.
Romney leads all prospects among voters who attend church once a month or less. Huckabee leads among more frequent churchgoers. Huckabee holds a huge lead among Evangelical Christians with Palin in second and Romney a distant third. Huckabee and Romney are essentially even among other Protestants while Romney has the edge among Catholics.
Romney leads among Republicans earning more than $75,000 a year while Huckabee leads among those who earn less.

Fringe News, aka CNN/MSNBC on ACORN Scandals
Watch her try to talk her way out of the video! Hilarious talking points and ridiculous avoidance of questions. CNN interview is actually putting it to her a bit.
"How much money do you receive on average per year from the federal government?"
"On average probably around $2 million dollars across the board" -Bertha Lewis, CEO
Lets see now, according to reports, ACORN has received (more than) $53 million dollars since 1994. That's $53 million in 16 years...hmm lets do that math...cal-cu-la-ting...that's approx 3.4 million dollars a year. Wow, Lewis, that's a little more than you calculated...Are you trying to downplay something?
MSNBC:
Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy
They attempt to address the "seemingly daming" videos
Nice! Right off the bat let's put a little doubt on the validity of these videos...clever clever.
"Acorn has suspended or fired all workers involved except the San Bernandino woman who said she was playing along...but conservatives are having a field day"
Well those damn conservatives! How dare they demand more answers. We've already brushed all the crazies off, what else to they want, actually accountabilty??
"Political Analyst say this is largely driven by conservatives longstanding distaste for ACORN."
Who are these political analyst? The ivy league interns you have sitting in the back room clicking away on Google? I remember college, we analyzed plenty of things.
Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy
(BEST FOR LAST ha!)
"Welcome back, the GOP is ramping up their campaign against the anti-poverty group ACORN...."
Awwww, who wants to go against some organization that is fighting poverty! Those terrible Republicans! Why won't they leave these poor people alone! I mean they fired the crazy people, well except for the San Bernandino lady who was playing along with the hidden cameras, she's cool.
After saying that the census cut ties and Senate cut housing funds, he goes on to say "but that is not enough for Republicans, they don't want the group to get any kind of federal funding.
Gasp!! You mean, NO federal funding for this amazing, totally legitimate, "anti-poverty" squeeky clean group of good Samaritans! NEVER! Bad GOP!
" I know whats going on here, the conservatives just don't want ACORN to be a part of anything. Where was their outrage when Halliburton was overcharging the government and electrocuting American soldiers?"
Well, we're here now and of course we wouldn't want ACORN to be a part of anything. What is this guy smoking? There are now videos from several different offices that promote child prostitution, illegal sex trade, tax evasion, to name a few, do you want your taxes going to fund them?
"Now thats no excuse for ACORN problems, I'm not here to defend them, they need to fix thier problems fast, but REPUBLICANS are trying to broad brush this and its not that simple."
Actually it is that simple. ACORN needs to be investigated by an outside sources who is willing to get deep into the dirt of the dirt of the dirt of ACORN. Did I mention there would be a lot of dirt?
{to CEO}"Do you run an honest organization? Because the Conservatives out there are saying that everything about ACORN is dishonest?"
"Well first off, just because you repeat a lie, over and over again, doesn't make it true."
Did that count for Mickey Mouse's registration to vote? Here is something truthful for you CEO-boss-lady, just because you deny something over and over again doesn't make it go away.
"We've been running this organizing since 40 years."
Hehe, am I allowed to laugh at your poor grammar skills or is that racist?
{to CEO}"What do you say about the video tapes?"
Well first of all, for Fox and the Right Wing to have to stoop to a made up scenario is one thing, but! as you know and as I've said over and over again, those people were reprehensible...blah blah."
Gasp! How dare anyone try and uncover the truth behind a liberal organization. Damn those new mediums that show these completely fabricated, totally staged videos...oh and we fired those reprehensible people that they doctored.
"Let me say one thing, not one shred of paper kicked in because our quality control does kick in."
So you see, we aren't responsible for anything that is undocumented. We're totally guiltless and ignorant about what our employees are telling the public.
{to CEO} "...this is why I'm doing this story because a U.S. Senator has gone on record saying your whole organization is corrupt."
"Listen, this goes, waaay back, all the way back to the Bush Administration, a couple weeks ago we saw Karl Roves emails specifically targeting us and then firing U.S. attorney's because they wouldn't combat and do a political conviction against us."
Let me show you how these people made up these lies. Watch its easy! Not working? Ok well, its the Bush administrations fault that we were flagged earlier, we thought we were going to get away with it now because we have a brother in the House but,...oh wait, was that racist??
"We compete for those dollars, we're effective, and were just the target of this right wing republican attempt..."
Compete by seeing who can come up with the most creative fake name for voter registrations? No no, must be who can come up with the most names for the fake voter registrations.
Oh and can I mention that there were only 7 Democrats and 0 Republicans that voted to have you keep your money. But it's all the Republican's doing. Like we could pass anything w/o Dem support in this off balance government.

Obama Called to Action by GOP
Today House Republicans, led by Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH), are sending the following letter to President Obama asking him to use his authority to end all funding to and break all government ties with ACORN:
Dear Mr. President:
We write to you today in the wake of new reports of potentially criminal activity involving associates of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) to respectfully request that you use your authority to publicly disclose and terminate all federal funding to ACORN and its affiliates. It is evident that ACORN is incapable of using federal funds in a manner that is consistent with the law. Immediate action is necessary to ensure that no additional tax dollars are directed to ACORN. Simply put, ACORN should not receive another penny of American taxpayers’ money.
Congressional pressure, coupled with the impact of recent media reports, prompted the U.S. Census Bureau on September 11 to end its partnership with ACORN. We support this decision by the Census Bureau, and believe it is vital that all other federal agencies with ties to ACORN follow the Census Bureau’s example by severing all ties to ACORN and its affiliates, whether those ties consist of partnerships or the awarding of federal funds, including federal funds distributed through state and local governments from federal block grants.
This is a matter of common sense and respect for taxpayer dollars. Last year, millions of Americans were outraged to learn their tax dollars were being used to subsidize an organization linked to multiple instances of voter registration fraud and other illicit activity. An analysis of federal data by the Office of the Republican Leader determined that ACORN has received more than $53 million in direct funding from the federal government since 1994, and has likely received substantially more indirectly through states and localities that receive federal block grants.
The Census Bureau has made the commendable decision to sever ties with ACORN, and it is now critical that all remaining federal entities with ties to ACORN do the same. We ask that you use your authority to ensure that all federal funding of ACORN is publicly disclosed and terminated immediately. To facilitate this effort, the Republican staff of the Oversight Committee has compiled a complete list of the corporations that form the ACORN Council, and we would be pleased to share it with you and members of your administration.
We thank you for your attention to this request.
Do you have a ....Race Card? Nope. Go Fish.
Riiiiight Jimmy Carter and you were the greatest American President EVER!
It is so ridiculous to yet again pull out the race card. Every time you disagree with this administration, Obama or his policies you get called a racist! How much time will pass before they realize that these accusation only make them look like foolish school children.
There is such a double standard in Washington today. If you speak out against the liberals you're vilified on all fronts, but if you are a liberal who smears a conservative (like Reid calling Bush a liar) you aren't responsible for anything. Then again, we've learned that Washington doesn't think they are responsible to anyone except to their cronies.
The Georgia Democrat said the outburst was a part of a disturbing trend directed at the president that has included demonstrators equating Obama to Nazi leaders.
I find it comical that he is so "disturbed" by the fact that their have been similarities pointed out between Obama and Nazi Germany. I personally am more disturbed by the actual similarities than by the people pointing them out. Regardless, shouldn't you look at the facts and make your own judgements instead of throwing everything into the racist basket. For now we still have the right to think, process, analysis, research and share opinions and facts.
"The president is not only the head of government, he is the head of state," he said. "And no matter who he is or how much we disagree with his policies, the president should be treated with respect."
This is possibly the most hysterical part of Carter's statements. Since when did the liberals give Bush ANY respect while he was president. During his state of the union address in 2005 the Democrat's booed our President, is that RESPECT???
Bush was called a liar, teased and bullied by media and left wing fanatics but I never heard of Carter speaking out against those people. Just because Obama is black does not make it a racial issue every time someone disagrees. And well, again, it is a totaly double standard that the things that apply to the liberals do not apply to the conservatives.

Information/Critique of Obama's Speech to Joint Congres
Most of this came from the GOP Fact Check! So go ahead to the site to see more comments about the speech:
.............................................................................................................................................................
- A checklist for Obama's speech...things to think about and watch courtesy of Keith Hennessy.com , topics include:
Deadline, 'Must' and its variants, Any new number, public option language and Medical liability/malpractice/tort reform
He asks questions like:
Does he think the problem is substance or communication?
How does he characterize the opposition?
What did he learn from the August town halls?
Does he explicitly reject bills developed in July to give nervous Dems cover?
What is the priority: helping the insured of insuring the uninsured?
- Obama says his stimulus has "brought the economy back from the brink." Interesting ... because Congressional Democratic leaders that attacked job GROWTH under President Bush are now declaring economic victory despite job LOSSES under President Obama. Click here for more information.
Obama says the "health care problem is the deficit problem".
CBO Director Says Plans For Government-Run Health Care Would Worsen Budget
“President Obama’s plan to expand health coverage to the uninsured is likely to dig the nation deeper into debt ... ‘Without meaningful reforms, the substantial costs of many current proposals . . . would be much more likely to worsen the long-run budget outlook than to improve it,’ he said. ...” ("Obama's Health Plan Needs Spending Controls Spending Control" CBO says, Washington Post, 6/17/09)
- Obama mentions single payer...
Speaker Pelosi Has Pledged a Floor Vote on Single Payer (7/31/09)
Dem Congresswoman Told Supporters Public Option Will Lead to Single-Payer System (4/18/09)
- Obama says we need to create more competition .... Republicans have plans to do exactly that ...Republican Plan Will Allow Americans To Shop For Insurance Across State Lines, Creating More Competitive Insurance Market and Reducing Premiums. 7/30/09
- The plan he is "introducing" sounds kinda familiar don't you think?? Maybe because he said on August 11, 2009:
"Under the reform we're proposing, insurance companies will be prohibited from denying coverage because of a person's medical history."(President Barack Obama, Remarks In Health Insurance Reform Town Hall, Portsmouth, NH, 8/11/09)
- Despite Obama claiming once again that a public option will increase competition the facts prove something else
Government-Run Health Care Will Crowd Out Private Competitors
“But the federal government isn’t competition. It is the health care equivalent of Bigfoot, with so many Americans on its rolls that it dictates prices for doctors, drugs, and other benefits. It sets low prices, to be sure, lower than many insurers are able to match. But that just means those doctors and hospitals recoup the losses by shifting costs onto those with private insurance -- amounting to an estimated $89 billion a year, one insurance exec told a Senate committee a few months ago. A new public option may start small. But it could easily crowd out private plans depending on how premiums, benefits and subsidies are structured.” (Editorial, “Hope and Experience" The Chicago Tribune, 6/16/09)
- Public Plan “Cannot Operate On A Level Playing Field” Because It Has Unfair Advantage.
“A public plan, particularly combined with the impact of Medicare, Medicaid, and other public plans, cannot operate on a level playing field and compete fairly if it acts as both a payer and a regulator. The public plan’s unfair competitive position, both by its size and regulatory authority, will merely shift additional costs to the private sector and employees covered by private plans.”(National Coalition on Benefits, Letter To Senators Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell and Representatives Nancy Pelosi and John Boehner, 6/9/09)
- Obama: Public option will not impact already-insured Americans.
Public Option Will Likely Result In 88 Million Americans Losing Their Current, Employer-Based Coverage.
“Under current law, there will be about 158.1 million people who are covered under an employer plan as workers, dependents or early retirees in 2011. If the act were fully implemented in that year, about 88.1 million workers would shift from private employer insurance to the public plan.” (John Shelis, Vice President, Lewin Group, Analysis of the July 15 draft of the American Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, 7/23/09)
- President Obama claims that a majority of Americans support a public option.
Poll: 52% Disapprove Of Obama’s Handling Of Health Care, Up 9 Points Since July.
“An Associated Press-GfK poll says that public disapproval of President Barack Obama’s handling of health care has jumped to 52 percent. … The grade people give Obama on health care has also worsened since July, when just 43 percent disapproved of his work on the issue.” ("Obama Disapproval On Health Care up to 52%, 9/9/09)
Obama claimed no government bureaucrat
Congressional Democrats Want New Health Insurance Czar That Would Dictate What Treatments Would Be Funded
“A qualified health benefits plan shall meet a medical loss ratio as defined by the Commissioner. For any plan year in which the qualified health benefits plan does not meet such medical loss ratio, QHBP offering entity shall provide in a manner specified by the Commissioner for rebates to enrollees of payment sufficient to meet such loss ratio ... The Commissioner shall build on the definition and methodology developed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services under the amendments made by section 161 for determining how to calculate the medical loss ratio. Such methodology shall be set at the highest level medical loss ratio possible that is designed to ensure adequate participation by QHBP offering entities, competition in the health insurance market in and out of the Health Insurance Exchange, and value for consumers so that their premiums are used for services” (H.R. 3200, "America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009,"
- Obama once again promises a deficit-neutral health care bill.
Current Version Of Obama’s Government-Run Health Care Experiment Would Add $239 Billion Deficit In Ten Years. “According to CBO’s and JCT’s assessment, enacting H.R. 3200 would result in a net increase in the federal budget deficit of $239 billion over the 2010-2019 period.” (Preliminary Analysis of the House Democrats' Health Reform Proposal, CBO Director's Blog, 7/18/09)
- President Obama wants to get rid of waste and fraud to pay for part of his government-run health care experiment.
CBO Concluded House Dems’ Bill Contains No Savings From Elimination Or Reduction Of Waste, Fraud, And Abuse.
(Page 15, 17, CBO Director, Letter to Rep. Charles Rangel, 7/17/09) - @DonSeymour notes on Twitter: President compared government-run plan to "public colleges & universities," which his Education Secretary just knocked for "skyrocketing" costs
- Obama just mentioned a "panel" that would ration care? I thought that was a radical right wing lie!
IMAC Would Give Medicare Increased Ability To Deny Treatments.
“President Obama has proposed a new body that would enhance Medicare’s ability to deny care to the elderly and disabled based on government bureaucrats’ arbitrary valuations of those patients’ lives. It is right there in the legislation now before Congress, and it is called the Independent Medicare Advisory Council.” (Cannon, Op-Ed, "Sorry Folks, Sarah Palin is (Partly) Right," The Detroit Free-Press, 8/19/09)
- Obama: This will in no way add to deficit, even though it will cost 9 billion
$500 billion+ cuts to Medicare to pay for government-run health care experiment will make seniors "the net losers"
According to the Washington Post...House Will Trim $563 Billion From Medicare.“From the raw numbers, it appears seniors are the net losers under bills approved by three House committees ... The legislation trims $563 billion out of Medicare’s growth rate over the next 10 years ...” (Connolly, "Seniors Remain Wary of Health-Care Reform," The Washington Post, 8/9/09)
- House Dems’ Plan Job-Killing Tax Increases On Small Businesses To Pay For Reform.
The Small Business Surtax
“This [surtax] would hit job creators especially hard because more than six of every 10 who earn that much are small business owners, operators or investors, according to a 2007 Treasury study... America’s successful small businesses would pay higher tax rates than the Fortune 500, and for that matter than most companies around the world ... “ (Editorial, “The Small Business Surtax,” Wall Street Journal, 7/14/09) "

GOP Hasn’t Been Invited To The White House To Discuss Health Care Since The End Of April
“Boehner told reporters that the president has not invited House GOP leaders to the White House for meetings on healthcare reform since the end of April. Earlier this year, GOP leaders sent a letter to the president in May stating that they would like to work with the administration to find “common ground” on healthcare reform. But the administration responded with a tersely worded letter indicating that they had healthcare reform under control.” (Molly Hooper, “Boehner: GOP Leaders Haven’t Met Obama For Health Talks Since April,” The Hill's "Briefing Room", 9/9/09)
- Interesting catch from our good friends in Senate GOP Leader McConnell's office:
17 million fewer uninsured -- in a month??
Great catch by Don Stewart/Josh Holmes in Mitch McConnell's office
"There are now more than thirty million American citizens who cannot get coverage.” Obama 9/9/09
“We've got 46-47 million people without health insurance in our country.” Obama, Guadalajara, Mexico, 8/10/09
- Obama attacks the status quo while also promoting the status quo
Obama Attacking Status Quo While Embracing It.
“One of the bewildering ironies of the health-care debate is that President Obama claims to be attacking the status quo when he’s actually embracing it. Ever since Congress created Medicare and Medicaid in 1965, health politics has followed a simple logic: Expand benefits and talk about controlling costs. That’s the status quo, and Obama faithfully adheres to it. While denouncing skyrocketing health spending, he would increase it by extending government health insurance to millions more Americans.” (Robert Samuelson, Op-Ed, "Championing The Status Quo", The Washington Post, 8/10/09)

- President Obama doesn't like folks who call each other un-American
'Un-American' attacks can't derail health care debate
Didn't the person right behind him say something similar? He has called Republicans "liars" twice this week. Is that the acrimony he's referring to?
- There are 14 Republican Doctors in the House and Senate and all oppose Obama's plan. They want real reforms, as Rep. Boustany will explains, not a government takeover. When 14 out of 14 doctors agree, it's worth listening...
The Republican Repsose to Obama's Speech
- Republicans are pleased that Obama came to address the Congress tonight
- Republicans agree that we need to reform health care.
- What the Republicans has been hearing from the people is that they wanted to hear Obama tell Congress to start over on a bipartisan common sense plan instead of containing on this path. Unfortunately he didn't do that.
- This plan will make health care much more expensive. Not Boustany opinion but its a fact according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office
- Obama said there would be no bureaucracy but in this health care reform there are 53 new govt bureaucracy
- Obama said that he wouldn't sign a bill that crosses his desk that adds to the debt, but in fact this bill adds 100 billions to debt
- This bill will cut Medicare by 500 billion but it does nothing to help the programs otherwise
- Unfortunately Obama has not changed his mind on the public option, but the Republicans have their own idea of what needs to be changed.
- Everyone should have access to coverage.
- Small business and individuals should be able to join together to get coverage
- We should still get assistance to people who still can't received help.
- Need to provide incentives for wellness care and prevention
- Republicans are grateful that they mentioned TORT reform but hope he is serious. Because in order to have real reform we MUST do this.
- We have to be able to buy insurance across state lines
common sense reform that we can achieve right now... without taking away the freedom families cherish.
we could truly lower health care cost w/o lowering quality

Flashback 1991: Gephardt Called Bush's Speech to Students 'Paid Political Advertising'
By Noel Sheppard
September 3, 2009
As Barack Obama prepares a nationwide broadcast to America's students next Tuesday, it has been revealed that Democrats complained in 1991 when then President George H. W. Bush broadcast a speech from a Northwest Washington junior high school.
In fact, the House Majority leader at the time, Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.), said "The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the president, it should be helping us to produce smarter students."
Such was reported by the Washington Post on October 3, 1991 (h/t KY3 Political Notebook via Chuck Todd):
House Democrats criticized President Bush yesterday for using Education Department funds to produce and broadcast a speech that he made Tuesday at a Northwest Washington junior high school.
The Democratic critics accused Bush of turning government money for education to his own political use, namely, an ongoing effort to inoculate himself against their charges of inattention to domestic issues. The speech at Alice Deal Junior High School, broadcast live on radio and television, urged students to study hard, avoid drugs and turn in troublemakers.
"The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the president, it should be helping us to produce smarter students," House Majority Leader Richard A. Gephardt (D-Mo.) said. "And the president should be doing more about education than saying, 'Lights, camera, action.' "
Two House committees demanded that the department explain the use of its funds for the speech, an explanation that Deputy Secretary David T. Kearns provided late in the day in a letter to Rep. William D. Ford (D-Mich.), chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee. Education Secretary Lamar Alexander was out of town. [...]Rep. Patricia Schroeder (D-Colo.), chairwoman of the Select Committee on Children, Youth and Families, said it was outrageous for the White House to "start using precious dollars for campaigns" when "we are struggling for every silly dime we can get" for education programs.
Rep. Martin Frost (D-Tex.) said that if Bush feels obliged to use government funds to hire outside consultants "to make him look good," then he should fire some of the public relations experts on the White House payroll. "Then the president might be more sympathetic to unemployment benefits," Frost said, referring to Bush's threat to veto legislation to extend benefits.
Makes one wonder if today's media, with the economy in what they've repeatedly called the worst recession since the Great Depression, will question Obama's use of education funds for his upcoming speech.
After all, when you look at Education Secretary Arne Duncan's letter concerning this event, one has to assume it's costing the Department a great deal of money.

200 Days, 200 Claims: The RNC's Report on Obama's Failed Promises
A Special RNC Research Report On
President Obama’s Failed Economic Experiment

RNC Chairman Michael Steele: “It is appropriate on the 200th day of the stimulus to look back at exactly what the stimulus has accomplished. The answer is very little. What it has done, however, is give the American people a $787 billion bill they cannot afford. In this report, you will find 200 claims that President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, senior Administration officials and Congressional Democrats have made about the stimulus. None of these claims match reality.” (RNC Research, 200 Days, 200 Claims, 8/31/09)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, often referred to as the “stimulus.” As members of Congress debated the bill and in the time following its inception, there were countless promises made to the American people regarding exactly what the bill would deliver. The mantra of “jobs, jobs, jobs” was used repeatedly to sell the stimulus. While it’s impossible to calculate the number of jobs “created or saved” by the stimulus, we do know that since the stimulus was passed over 2.2 million jobs have been lost nationwide.
As we approach September 4, 2009, the 200th day since the stimulus package was signed into law, the Research Department of the Republican National Committee (RNC) has identified and reviewed 200 of the claims made by the Obama Administration and Congressional Democrats who supported this massive economic experiment. The RNC’s research focuses on promises made to the American people on job creation, waste, prevention, targeted spending, transparency, and how the stimulus would bring about an economic recovery. The resulting report, “200 Days, 200 Claims,” holds Democrats accountable for their claims that the stimulus was an absolute necessity to “jolt” the economy. They used this and other claims to quickly force through one of the largest spending bills in American history. Now Americans will see how valid those claims are 200 days later.
Among the misleading claims debunked in this report are these oft-repeated and echoed talking points:
- The stimulus would create 3.5 million jobs and starting do so immediately; Instead, over 2.2 million Americans have lost their jobs since the stimulus bill was signed into law.
- The money would be spent carefully, effectively, and transparently; Instead, we have seen the money squandered on such projects as the $18 million overhaul of the Administration’s stimulus-promoting website and the GAO has said there is no effective system in place to monitor the spending.
- And, lastly, the stimulus is working as promised and according to plan; Instead, the unemployment rate has far exceeded even the Administration’s projection if we did not pass their stimulus bill.
Not surprisingly, the American people are not buying these and other Democrat claims. No wonder a recent USA Today/Gallup poll found that nearly 6 in 10 Americans believe the stimulus is having no impact on the economy and won’t help in the years to come. As the reality behind these 200 claims demonstrate, Americans are too smart to be misled.

Chick Chat: Loosing Sight
- Wealthy family of four just built a several million dollar home in S. Florida sans eco friendly features. They like to travel to their vacation house in the Florida Keys (also new), hunting lodge (also new) in the mid-west, land/small cabin in Alaska and a trailer in rural Florida. The husband and children are regular hunters in their vacation homes. Regular fishermen in their Florida homes. If they are staying at a hotel don't ask them to use the same towel two days in a row. They've take several trips to safari hunts in Africa. The husband drives to work in his Hummer and the mother is a stay-at-home mom. The mother spends her day cooking, cleaning and driving her kids to their extremely elite private school in her Mercedes SUV. The mother serves her husband first, catering to his and her children every need but don't ask for leftovers because she throws them out.
Are they elitist Republicans who need to be brought down a notch or two? Are their houses, cars, boats, etc eco-friendly or gas guzzlers? Are they anti- or pro-gun rights? Does the mother exhibit feminist ideals or is she embracing traditional gender roles?
What do you think? Conservatives? Liberals? Conservatives? Liberals?
Obviously this is a snip-it of their lives but don't they sound a stereotypical wealthy, gun-totting, elitist Republican family.
So, what if I told you that the husbands a lawyer? What if I told you that she believed that when people get hurt because of personal irresponsibility, they are within their full right to sue? What if they forced their teenage niece to go on birth control?
What if I told you that they were friends with Joe Biden and his "lovely" family?
I think you probably know the answer now. This family is indeed liberal. Not just a little liberal too, they are extremely to the left. But what I find so comical is that they don't live their lives adhering to the many "principles" that the left clings too.
They hunt. They aren't eco-friendly. They don't let the young women in their own family have a choice about their bodies. They cling to the image of the 1950's housewife fiercely.
So question, why are they liberal?
Here is an idea, how about the circles they run in, the bank account they use, affords them that ability.
If you remember back to my Chick Chat: Party of Control I discussed how the Dem party has become just as elitist as the Republican's are labeled to be. I talked about how the wealthy can afford to be idealistic.
Well, this just is another example of how wealth give you the ability to be so idealist that you think you can take care of everyone. This family is not a bad family. They are friends and they are good people. But they are so blinded by idealism that they don't see what is around them. They don't see people who are unable to survive a tax increase. They don't see that fundamental change is not what the American people need or want.
I may kick myself a few years from now, but I hope I never have so much money that I loose sight of the America's face, can't hear the beat of America's heart or forget taste of American freedom.
